SCCM reports Windows 11 workstations as Windows 10. Can MECM / SCCM be updated to report the correct version of Windows?

In MECM console version 5.2207.1048.1700, when I go to the properties of the computer or try to produce a report for the PC`s OS, there is no option to see Windows 11 PCs. They all show up as Windows 10 PCs.

I understand this is by design to keep the software compatible between version changes however, I find that SCCM and MECM could apply some background version build selection to determine if the current build is of Windows 10 or 11 version.

Will we see a future update of SCCM to better report Windows 11 PC within SCCM / MECM?

    Hi, @RuKo

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on the information available, SCCM reports Windows 11 workstations as Windows 10. However, to distinguish devices running Windows 11 in SCCM, you can use the Operating System Build device property for build number 10.0.22000 or later. The OS deployment images and upgrade packages for Windows 11 show the image name as Windows 10. This is by design.

As for future updates of SCCM, it's possible that Microsoft may release updates to improve the reporting of Windows 11 PCs in SCCM as and when there are new releases. However, there is no official word on this yet.
