Hi Matt,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.
To assist you effectively and explore possible solutions, we’d like to gather a few more details to better understand your scenario.1. File Location and Ownership
- Are all the files you need to update stored in your OneDrive (specifically the “Microsoft Teams Chat Files” folder), or are some stored in SharePoint or other locations?
- Are you the owner of all these files, or were some shared by others in the chat?
2. Number and Type of Files
- Approximately how many files require permission to change?
- Are these mostly Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), PDFs, or other file types?
- Are the files spread across multiple chats, or are they all from a single chat/group?
3. Current Permission Settings
- When you say permissions are set to “everyone currently in chat,” do you see this reflected in the file sharing settings in OneDrive?
- Have you checked the permissions for a sample file using the “Manage access” option in OneDrive or Teams to see who currently has access?
4. Desired Permission Outcome
- Do you want to grant access to a specific new individual, or update permissions for a new group of people?
- Should the new person(s) have edit or view-only access?
- Do you want to remove access for anyone who is no longer in the chat?
Once we have this information, we’ll be able to recommend the most efficient way to update permissions or suggest alternative approaches to streamline access.Best regards,
