Search Not Returning Results Within Microsoft Loop Pages – Bug or Limitation?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently experiencing an issue with Microsoft Loop, where the search bar doesn’t seem to return results from content within Loop pages or sub-pages. For example, I can search by page title, but not by specific keywords or text inside the page content itself. Sometimes the results flash briefly and then disappear entirely.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Is this a known limitation of Loop's current search functionality?

Could there be permissions, indexing, or tenant-level settings affecting this?

Is there any way to improve or extend search capabilities in Loop (e.g., integration with Microsoft Search or enabling deeper content indexing)?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

    Hi @Leni Dickenson-Esposito

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on our discussion, my understanding is that you're experiencing an issue with Microsoft Loop where the search bar isn't returning results from content within Loop pages or sub-pages, but only from page titles. You also mentioned that sometimes the results flash briefly and then disappear entirely. Could you please confirm if this understanding is correct?

Also, is it this specific search button you're using (located on the left-hand side)?

I've tried to replicate this behavior on my own environment and observed something similar. Specifically:

    • When I create a new workspace and try to search immediately from the main Loop homepage, the content within that workspace doesn't appear in the search results. At this point, only the workspace title shows up.
    • However, after waiting for about 20 minutes, I was able to search for content inside that workspace. It then showed me options to select, and I could click to navigate into the relevant page.
    • Similarly, if I create a new page within an existing workspace and search right away, it doesn't yield results. But again, after waiting for approximately 45 minutes, the search becomes effective.

I also asked a colleague to test this, and they encountered the same behavior. It seems like the system needs some time to sync new content before it becomes searchable.

With that in mind, have you had a chance to ask a colleague within your tenant to test this and see if they experience the same delay?

Please let me know your findings when you can, so I can provide you with the next steps.

    Looking forward to your response!

sadly searching in loop is still not working - especially when related to pages (e.g. copilot pages) - i have all but given up using loop as its a minefield of lost information and inaccessible clutter - such an amazing idea with poor execution

I think the isse is that it's not able to go to a particular section. The search result just returns the page.

Reporting in November of 2025 and can confirm search functionality is still not working as intended. A loop created as part of a meeting weeks ago had a specific keyword e.g. "Jira" and when searching for that word it surfaces other Loops from months ago but not the one that was useful. I later found it manually and then was able to surface the loop by doing a keyword search, but I don't understand why the initial search didn't surface it. Search results are also listed in no useful order.

    • This is reproduceable with other users
    • This is not limited to certain loops
    • This is not an indexing delay

    Hi Jeanie,

    Thanks for your detailed response.

This behaviour is occurring across all our staff when using the same search function. The page in question was created approximately two weeks ago, so I don’t believe the issue is related to indexing or sync delay.

Please let me know if there's anything else we can check.

    Kind regards, Leni Dickenson-Esposito

This is an example of how its appears (ignore the @funciton) As you can see text on all pages displays briefly then reverts back to search elsewhere. Just to clarify if i search for a title it will show up

    Hope this helps
