Joanne, the Australian female voice

Hi there,

My name is Jacqui, and I use an eyegaze system with voice output due to living with severe Cerebral Palsy, a physical disability, and I’m non-verbal.

I’ve been searching for an updated Australian female voice for over two years now. I’ve had the same voice for over twenty years, and although I love her (Karen), she’s mispronouncing words now.

When I came across the voice of Joanne, I immediately thought I had found my new voice. The issue is that my specialised software, Communicator 5, requires the executable installation file of the voice. Yesterday, I came across Azure offering Joanne, but my question is: if I subscribe to this service, is it cloud-based, or would I be able to install the voice on my Desktop PC and Microsoft Surface Pro?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes,

Jacqui

    Hi Jacqui,
The voice of Joanne will be available to you as a speech service (a cloud-based service) through an ENDPOINT and SPEECH_KEY, it does not come with an executable file that you could install on your Desktop or Surface Pro for Communicator 5 to use.

You’ll need to use a programming language along with either the Azure Speech SDK (Software Development Kit) or the REST API.

To get started, here is the supported documentation:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/speech-service/get-started-text-to-speech?tabs=windows&pivots=programming-language-python

Feel free to accept this as an answer.
Thankyou for reaching out to the Microsoft QNA Portal.
