How to reschedule a specific occurrence of a recurring Microsoft Teams meeting?

I am using the desktop Teams app. My version of Teams is 25198.1112.3855.2900.

We have a class that normally meets Monday through Thursday, at the same time every day. So, I have organized a recurring meeting.

On weeks when there is a Monday holiday, our Monday class is cancelled and replaced with a class at the same time on Friday. I cannot figure out how to move specific Monday occurrences of the recurring meeting to Friday occurrences instead.

Here are the approaches I have tried:

  1. I have tried using Edit | This event, modifying the date, and then clicking Send update. But nothing happens. The meeting occurrence does not actually move to the new date; it defiantly remains scheduled for Monday.
  2. I have also tried, in the Work week calendar view, dragging the Monday occurrence to the same time on Friday. After dropping it there, I get a dialog titled Update Event, with a Send Update button. When I click the button, I get a message saying Couldn't save event. The message has a Try again link, but clicking it just says Couldn't save event again (this time without the Try again option). Needless to say, the occurrence doesn't move.

I want all class meetings to be part of the same meeting series so that students won't need special joining instructions for Friday classes. So, that rules out just creating individual non-recurring events for Friday classes.

Is there any way to do what I am trying to accomplish?

    Hi @John Elsbree
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

To better assistance, could you confirm if the recurring meeting is a regular meeting or a channel meeting in Teams? This matters because channel meetings have extra limits when editing single occurrences.

In the meantime, you could try to do it in Outlook on the web (fastest, most reliable)

    1. Go to Outlook on the web => Calendar.
    2. Find the Monday meeting for the holiday week and open it.
    3. Select Edit => This event.
    4. Change Date to Friday (keep the same time).
    5. Send the update to attendees

I tested this on my side, and it works as expected. The issue might be caused by a synchronization conflict in the Teams client application.

If you prefer staying in Teams, please try again after checking for updates and relaunching the app.
