Missing meets in Teams

Hi!

My child has an educational Microsoft Account which basically every child in the country has. We have a few online lessons which are held in Teams. From time to time he is facing a problem that he can't participate in the lesson. Usually all the online lessons are in the Calendar. When everything is according to the plan he just opens the calendar and presses "Join" button to join the lesson.

But sometimes either he sees a cancelled meeting or no meeting at all. Meanwhile his classmates do see the meeting and can join the lesson.

The teacher who is in charge of creating the schedule keeps telling me that he has done everything right. And I don't know how to diagnose the problem. So, the case breaks up into two cases:

  1. The meeting is in calendar but has a cancelled status.
  2. There is no meeting in the calendar.

How to diagnose the problem? For example, can I see when and who cancelled the meeting for the first case?

How can I find out the reason why there is no meeting in the calendar in the second case? Are there any sort of logs which are available either to me or to the teacher in charge?

    Hi @Maksim Dmitrichenko,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A Forum.

First of all, may I reconfirm whether your child has already been added to the class channel that the teacher created? The easiest way to verify this is by checking the Teams and Channels list, where you should see all the Teams and channels your child has joined. For example, as shown in the image below, I am listed as an attendee in the channel “Group 1” of Team “T2.”

Next, could you please ask the teacher to describe the method used to create these lessons? Typically, to set up a recurring series of meetings with fixed times, the teacher would create a Channel meeting in the Teams calendar.

When configuring a Channel meeting, the teacher selects the specific channel where the schedule should appear.

By following this workflow, all students in that channel (e.g., Group 1) should see the series of lessons in their calendar and be able to join the meetings.

Additionally, could you confirm that your child’s classmates are in the same channel and Team as your child? For instance, if the meeting was created in a private channel that your child does not have access to, it would not appear in their calendar.

Regarding meetings that show as canceled in the calendar, you might ask your child to compare their calendar with a classmate’s. For example, if your child and the classmate belong to different channels, the teacher may have initially created a series including both channels, then realized an error and canceled the old series before creating a new one for only one channel. In that case, your child could have been left out.

You can also check your child’s Outlook notifications (if available), because when a meeting series is created or canceled, Outlook usually sends a notification about the update. The image below illustrates an example of a series meeting updated for time changes.

I understand this may take a little time and seem complex, but starting with these basic checks will help us capture all the conditions and better understand the situation, so we can dig deeper into the root cause.

Thank you for your patience and valuable time, I'm looking forward to your response.
