When trying to upgrade Teams, the option for my country is not available. Both my Microsoft account and computer are set to the US time zone, language, and region. However, the upgrade options for Teams only appear for another location, originally linked to where I created the account years ago. How do I change this setting?

    Hi @Cesar

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

The issue you are experiencing relates to a mismatch between your Teams account settings and the regional configuration of your Microsoft account and Windows device. This can affect upgrade options and availability for certain features.

When a Microsoft account is created, its original region is stored as part of the account profile. Even if you later change your device settings (time zone, language, region) to the United States, some services, such as Teams, may still reference the original region linked to your account. This is why upgrade options appear for a different location.

Below are some workarounds that you can try to follow:

1/ Start by checking that your Microsoft account region matches your location or requirements.

    • Sign in at account.microsoft.com
    • Go to Your Info > Edit Country/Region and confirm it is set to United States.

    User's image

2/ Proceed by updating Teams settings to match your desired configuration.

    • Open Teams and click your profile picture.
    • Select Settings > General and confirm language and region preferences.

    User's image

3/ After that, verify that Windows regional settings are correctly applied.

    • Go to Window + I > Time & Language > Region.
    • Ensure your country/region is set to United States.

    User's image

4/ End by signing out and re‑signing in to confirm the configuration.

    • After making changes, sign out of Teams and restart your device to apply updates.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. This will help us better understand the issue and provide more accurate assistance. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

To change the settings for your Teams account to match your current time zone, language, and region, you need to ensure that your organization’s settings reflect the desired configurations. Here are the steps you can take:

    1. Check Organization Settings: If you are an administrator, you can change the preferred language and region settings for your organization in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Sign in with your global administrator account and navigate to Settings > Org settings > Organization profile. From there, you can select the appropriate language and region for your organization.
    2. User Settings: If you are not an administrator, you can change your own preferred language through your settings after signing in to Teams. This may help in aligning your Teams experience with your preferences.
    3. Upgrade Options: If the upgrade options for Teams are still not appearing for your current location, it may be due to the geographical region selected during the account creation. In some cases, the geographical region cannot be changed by the user. You may need to contact Microsoft support for assistance in changing the region linked to your account.
    4. Time Zone Settings: Ensure that the time zone settings for your Teams account are correctly set. The default time zone for resource accounts is Pacific Standard Time, so you may need to adjust this if it does not match your local time zone.

If you continue to experience issues, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance regarding your account settings and upgrade options.
