It so happens that The problem is that text-to-speech (TTS) doesn't work on mobile devices when I try to use it with a PDF, but it does work on a PC. What can I do? I hope they add or fix this in the next app update. I love Microsoft's TTS, but I can't use it outside the home on my phone. 💔

A few things you can still try :

    1. Clear Microsoft Edge app cache Settings > Apps > Edge > Storage > Clear cache
    2. Disable any accessibility services that might conflict with Read Aloud, then try again.
    3. Test the same PDF in the Microsoft 365 (Office) mobile app, which sometimes handles PDF text differently than Edge.

Can you tell me which mobile platform you are using: Android or iOS? Also, are you using the Microsoft Edge mobile app, Microsoft 365 mobile app, or another Microsoft app to open the PDF? This will help narrow down the cause.

In the meantime, please try these steps:

    1. Make sure the app you're using to open the PDF supports “Read Aloud” on mobile. Some versions of the Microsoft apps still have limited PDF TTS support.
    2. Update your Microsoft app and your phone’s OS to the latest version.
    3. Try opening the PDF directly in Microsoft Edge mobile and test Read Aloud there.

Currently, text-to-speech (TTS) functionality for PDF files on mobile devices is not supported in Microsoft applications. This limitation is similar to the issue where viewing PDF files in mobile browsers is disabled in Microsoft Word Mobile viewer. Therefore, you may not be able to use TTS for PDFs on your mobile device as you can on a PC.

It's a known limitation, and while feedback for improvements is always valuable, there is no confirmation on when or if this feature will be added in future updates.
