Microsoft is not recognizing my account login for my admin account. I cannot recover it and I cannot speak with anyone on the phone about it because you have to be admin and I cannot get into that account.

    Hello Michael Norcia,

When Microsoft does not recognize your admin account login, the first thing to clarify is whether this is a local administrator account on a Windows machine or a Microsoft 365/Azure AD tenant admin account. The recovery path differs significantly depending on which type of account you are locked out of.

If this is a local Windows administrator account, you cannot bypass the login or disable protections. The supported recovery method is to use another administrator account on the machine, or boot into recovery mode and use the “Reset this PC” option. If there is no other admin account available, the only supported resolution is to reinstall Windows. Microsoft does not provide a way to reset or recover a local admin password without access to another admin account.

If this is a Microsoft 365 or Azure AD tenant admin account, the situation is different. Microsoft enforces strong ownership validation for tenant administrators. If you cannot log in and the account recovery options (alternate email, phone, MFA) are not working, you must initiate an admin account recovery request through the Microsoft 365 admin portal. This requires proof of domain ownership, usually by adding a TXT record to your DNS zone or providing billing information tied to the tenant. Microsoft support will not allow phone‑based recovery unless you can validate ownership through these channels.

The error you are seeing in practice means that the account is either locked, disabled, or the credentials are not matching what Azure AD has stored. There is no way to bypass this requirement. The only correct way forward is to use the self‑service password reset if it was enabled, or open a support case with Microsoft and provide proof of ownership of the tenant. Without that, Microsoft cannot grant access back to the admin account.

In short, if this is a local account, you need another admin or a reinstall. If this is a Microsoft 365/Azure AD admin account, you must go through the official recovery process with Microsoft support and provide ownership validation. There is no supported way to disable the admin requirement or bypass the login.

I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!

If you are unable to log into your admin account and cannot recover it, there are a few steps you can take:

    1. Check for Other Admins: If there are other global admins in your organization, ask them to help you reset your password or regain access to your account.
    2. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are the only global admin and cannot access your account, you will need to contact the Azure Data Protection team at +1 866-807-5850 for assistance.
    3. Use Security Information: If you have set up security information, you may be able to reset your password using your mobile device. This option is only available if your global admin has enabled it.
    4. Tenant Access Recovery: If your organization has lost access to its Microsoft 365 tenant, you may need to follow Microsoft's identity verification processes to regain administrative control. You can submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 support page.

If these options do not resolve your issue, you may need to explore additional support resources available through Microsoft.
