Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hi, John Bean
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Thanks for your question. Here are a few paths you can follow to activate your code for Office 2024:
If you have a 25-character Office 2024 product key (XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX)
This is for Office 2024 Home / Home & Business, not Microsoft 365.
- Go to the official redemption page
- Open a browser and go to: https://www.microsoft.com/setup
- Sign in to your Microsoft account
- Use the Microsoft account you want Office 2024 permanently linked to
Important: once redeemed, the key is tied to that account
- Enter your Office 2024 key
- Enter the 25-character code exactly as shown
- Follow the prompts to confirm country and language
- Download Office 2024
After redemption:
- You will be redirected to https://account.microsoft.com/services
- Office 2024 will appear there
- Select Install to download and install it
If Office is already installed and you just need to activate it
- Open Word (or Excel)
- Go to File > Account
- Select Change product key
- Enter your Office 2024 code
If activation succeeds, it will switch from “Unlicensed” to “Product Activated”.
If your code came from a retail card or email
- Still use https://www.microsoft.com/setup
- The origin of the code (Costco, Amazon, Microsoft Store, etc.) does not change the location
If the site says the code was already used
That usually means:
- It was already redeemed in the past
- It is linked to a different Microsoft account
In that case, you must:
- Sign in to the account that redeemed it
- Or contact the seller if the card was new but already used
Hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you need further assistance.
