How do I turn off spellcheck in teams? Only in a recent update it started happening that while I was typing Dutch messages (I type in Dutch and English to colleagues), it keeps autocorrecting to English. I get this little revert / cog icon whenever it happens. I've clicked on the cog and it brings me to the General Teams settings page where I see the option to "Manage" Editor spellcheck:

But when I click that, there's no off button. I can add up to 3 languages, but those don't save.

It is very frustrating...

You first need to select a language in the "Editor spellcheck" section to be able to deactivate the "Correct words while typing" option. Until you select a language, the option is hidden.

But if there is no language selected, it still corrects the words to english (and you can't deactivate it because the button is hidden). Which is a BIG BUG in the code in my opinion. It makes no sense.

There is no option to disable anything.
When i click on Manage, it allows me to add languages but there is no "Save" button or such - as soon as I exit the Manage view the added languages are lost. And yet it keeps constantly highlighting words in Teams in red and green and autocorrecting some of the words at random. This is incredibly frustrating.

I don't know if these settings are related, but in the "Language and regional formats", I have the "Follow OS settings" option checked and my App language is English (United States), see the image below.

Also, I only added English (United States) in the Editor spellchecker.

I don't know if this worked for me for other reasons, but maybe this helps somebody else too.

    Dear @Mark,

Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!

Based on your description, I understand that you've you're trying to turn off spell check in Microsoft Teams, but after a recent update it began autocorrecting your Dutch messages into English. The cog icon takes you to the Editor settings, but there's no option to disable spell check, and added languages don’t save, which makes the experience frustrating.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue.

To understand the situation better and provide you with the most suitable support, could you confirm the following information:

    • When you go to Team Settings > General and scroll down to Editor spellcheck (or when you click on the Gear icon (Settings) when it autocorrected your English), is the option 'Correct words while typing' set to 'On'?
      • User's image
    • Are others in the same organization with you that have the same new version of Teams experiencing the same issue?

Your confirmation would be very helpful in ensuring you receive the most suitable support!

Regarding this situation, I have tested on my end with 'Correct words while typing' option On, and I had the same experience:

When I turned off 'Correct words while typing' in Editor spellcheck, I didn't see it being autocorrected anymore:

I tried with another language as well:

This was when 'Correct words while typing' is set to 'On':

When I turned it off, it was not autocorrected anymore:

Therefore, kindly check your editor spellcheck settings again and  let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!

Thank you for your time and patience.
