How to fix powerpoint transitions with recording

Set fixed 20‑second transitions first, then record the narration/timings so they are respected in the final playback or exported video.

1. Set a 20‑second transition on each slide
   1. Select the first slide.
   2. Go to the Transitions tab.
   3. Choose the transition effect (for example, Fade).
   4. In the Timing group, set Duration to 20.00 seconds.
   5. If desired, select Apply To All so every slide uses the same 20‑second transition.
   6. Use Preview on the Transitions tab to confirm the effect and timing.
   If a slide already has a transition, selecting a new one on the Transitions tab replaces it. You can also adjust Effect Options (direction, etc.) and timing there.
2. Record the slide show with those timings
   1. Open the presentation and go to the slide where recording should start.
   2. On the Slide Show tab, select Record Slide Show (or the Record button near the upper right, depending on the version).
   3. In the Record Slide Show dialog, ensure Slide and animation timings is checked so PowerPoint records and uses timings.
   4. Select Start Recording.
   5. Narrate the slides. PowerPoint records:
      • Time spent on each slide
      • Animation steps
      • Use of triggers
   6. Note: narration is not recorded during transitions, so let the 20‑second transition play, then speak.
3. Manage or re‑record timings if needed
   • Use the recording toolbar (top‑left while recording) to go to the next slide, pause, or re‑record the current slide.
   • To re‑record a slide, go back to it and start recording again; the previous narration and ink for that slide are replaced.
   • To clear timings or narration:
     1. In record mode, select Clear.
     2. Choose Clear Recording on Current Slide or Clear Recording on All Slides.
4. Export with transitions and timings
   • After recording, use File > Export to create a video. The exported video includes recorded timings, transitions, animations, narration, ink, and laser pointer gestures.
   • If a slide has no recorded timing, it defaults to 5 seconds in the exported video; adjust timings or re‑record if a 20‑second display is required.

If transitions still do not honor the 20‑second duration, re‑check each slide’s Transitions tab to confirm Duration is set to 20 seconds and that no later recording pass overwrote the timings.
