Animated GIFs - Incomplete Feature

The preview is currently not resizable, also it is critical that when a user double‑clicks a GIF, it can be expanded to display at its full dimensions, in the same way static images behave, but this is also not working.

At present for example, sending animated technical diagrams is effectively unusable, as the content cannot be viewed correctly. Implementing a feature that is fundamentally broken in its current state provides no practical value.

Is there a timeline on when this bug going to be resolved?

    Hello @User

Currently, there are no further announcements or updates from Microsoft regarding this issue, and no additional information has been shared about a fix or timeline for resolution.

If this issue is blocking real‑world usage, the best way to move it forward is to submit feedback directly via this page: Microsoft Teams · Community. Product teams actively track volume and impact there when prioritizing fixes.

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While I don’t have access to internal systems or test devices required to resolve backend/account issues, I truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations.

I hope you find this information helpful. I understand this isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but today there is no confirmed fix date, and raising feedback is currently the only path to influence prioritization

There is no published timeline in the provided information for fixing GIF preview behavior in Microsoft Teams chat.

The available context only notes that:

    • Some Teams users are experiencing GIF-related issues (such as GIFs not previewing before sending or not loading), and
    • The recommended actions are to:
      • Try local workarounds (for example, deleting the Teams desktop app cache folder as suggested by a community member), and
      • Report the issue through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center → Health → Service Health → Report an issue so it can be logged and investigated by Microsoft support.

No official incident, fix schedule, or roadmap entry is documented in the context for the specific problems described (non‑resizable GIF preview and failure to expand to full dimensions on double‑click).

For an authoritative status or ETA, the documented path is to have an admin open a support case or report the issue via Service Health so it can be tracked and any updates communicated there.
