Adding working music in teams

I'm working with primary age students online and in face-to-face teaching we use quiet music to support our students in focusing on their work. When teaching online, we don't have this capability within MS Teams. I would like to be able to, whilst presenting our PowerPoint in Teams, have quiet, calming music playing. I know we can have 'wait' music for when attendees wait in the lobby but I believe it would be greatly benefit our students. Thank you.

    Dear @Christine M,

Thank you for sharing your teaching scenario, using calm background music to support focus is a great practice, especially for primary‑age students. At this time, Microsoft Teams does not have a built‑in feature that allows background or “working” music to play continuously during a meeting or while presenting a PowerPoint, aside from the limited lobby or hold music experience.

As a workaround, many teachers play quiet instrumental music on their own device and then share their screen with system audio enabled so students can hear it while they work. For reference, please refer to Share sound from your computer in Microsoft Teams meetings or live events

Another option is to embed an audio file directly into the PowerPoint and set it to play automatically and loop across slides, then present the PowerPoint in Teams while sharing system audio. These approaches allow students to hear calming music without it needing to come through the microphone. For reference, please refer to Add or delete audio in your PowerPoint presentation

Please note that it’s best to keep the volume low and pause the music when speaking, as background audio can otherwise affect clarity. It’s also helpful to test this in advance to ensure sound levels are comfortable for students.

Moreover, I totally agree that this would be a valuable feature for online teaching. I strongly encourage submitting feedback to the Microsoft Teams product team, as educator feedback plays an important role in shaping future improvements.

To ensure your feedback reaches the right teams, I highly recommend submitting your feedback directly to Microsoft Ideas · Community, where our product development team can know your requirements and ideas for product improvements. If enough users raise ticket for the same idea, Microsoft may consider adding this feature in the future.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
