At first everything was working perfectly, but a few months after I began using it again, my Windows 11 laptop gave me a notification saying that the USB I was plugging in was not working properly and that Windows did not recognize it. That was confusing given that I have used it on this laptop many times before. I've tried plugging it in to another laptop, however it gave me the same notification, I've tried uninstalling the driver and installing it again, I've tried plugging it into another USB port, and I've tried restarting the computer several times but in the end, that was all unsuccessful. I'm unsure if it's because of the tablet or the laptop because the cable connecting both devices seems perfectly fine. I'm stuck on what to do next, if I should keep attempting new methods or if I should consider buying another tablet. Please help.

    Hello ingrid marroquin,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on what you described, the USB device doesn't work on both of your laptops. In this case, I'd think the main reason might come from the USB itself.

May I know if you have checked the AI assistant suggestion yet? If you did, may I know how it goes? Additionally, may I know if a new USB device works well on these computer?

    I'm waiting for your reply.

Since the tablet is no longer recognized on multiple PCs and basic steps were already tried (reinstalling the driver, different USB ports, restarts), focus on verifying the hardware and USB/driver layer in Windows.

    1. Check basic hardware and USB connectivity
    • Unplug the tablet’s USB cable, wait a short time so Windows can unload the driver, then plug it back in.
    • Try different USB ports on the PC (preferably directly on the laptop, not through a hub).
    • If using a USB hub, ensure it has power; if problems persist, remove the hub and connect the tablet directly.
    • Inspect the cable and ports for visible damage and make sure there is no dirt or debris in the connectors.
    1. Test on another PC
    • Connect the tablet to a different PC and check if any lights on the tablet come on or if the device is detected at all.
    • If the device does not work on another PC either (no lights, no detection), the tablet hardware is likely faulty and may need repair or replacement.
    1. Update Windows and USB/device drivers
    • Run Windows Update to ensure all device drivers are current. On Windows 11:
      1. Select Start.
      2. Open Settings and go to Windows Update.
      3. Select Check for updates and install any available updates.
    • After updating Windows, specifically ensure USB, mouse, and keyboard–related drivers are up to date, as these are in the same device class area. If needed, download updated drivers from the laptop manufacturer’s support site.
    1. Manually check and update drivers
    • Open Device Manager (type device manager in the taskbar search and select Device Manager).
    • Look for any devices with a yellow warning icon under Universal Serial Bus controllers, Human Interface Devices, or Other devices when the tablet is plugged in.
    • For any such device:
      1. Right-click it, select Properties, then the Driver tab.
      2. Select Update Driver and follow the prompts.
    1. Decide on repair vs. replacement
    • If the tablet is not recognized on multiple PCs and there are no driver updates or USB issues evident in Device Manager, the tablet itself is likely defective.
    • In that case, contacting the tablet manufacturer for hardware diagnostics or considering a replacement tablet is the practical next step.
