region restriction / policy violation issue while do any azure service deployment!

When investigated it looks like your Azure for Students subscription has an Azure Policy assignment that only allows you to deploy compute resources in a predefined set of regions. That’s why you’re getting the “policy violation…allowed regions” error. Here’s what you can do:

1. Identify the blocking policy
   • In the Azure portal, go to Monitor > Activity Log, find the failed deployment entry and note the policyAssignmentId or policyDefinitionId.
   • Or use Azure CLI to list all policy assignments on your subscription:

          az policy assignment list --scope /subscriptions/<your-subscription-id> \
             --query "[].{Name:name, DefinitionId:policyDefinitionId}" -o table
     

     Look for an assignment whose definition mentions “allowedLocations” or “Allowed locations.”.
2. Inspect the policy definition to see which regions are allowed
   • Once you have the policy assignment name or definition name, run:

          az policy definition show --name <policy-definition-name> \
            --query "properties.parameters.allowedLocations" -o json
     

   • This will output the list of regions you can use (for example: eastus, westeurope, southeastasia, etc.).
3. Redeploy in an allowed region
   • In your ARM template/CLI/portal, set the location to one of the regions returned in step 2.
   • Retry your deployment.
4. If you need additional regions
   • Student subscriptions use a global “allowed locations” policy that Microsoft manages and can’t be changed by end users.
   • Your options are: • Move your project to one of the permitted regions. • Upgrade your subscription to Pay-As-You-Go (or a different offer) which doesn’t have this same region lock. • Open a support ticket to discuss a policy exception, though for Azure for Students this is generally not supported.
