I need to cancel my Microsoft Teams Essentials subscription

Hello,

I signed up for a trial subscription in October of 2025. I've been trying to cancel this subscription for several months now, but there's no clear way to get this completed. I'm pretty sure this is a scam. Since I wasn't able to find a way to cancel this subscription, in February, I had my bank block payments for the next 3 years, but the following month your company changed the way that the payment is taken. I then had my bank cancel the card that was used and issue me a new card, thinking that would solve the issue, only to now receive another notification this month that I'm being charged again...smh.

This really seems like an ongoing scam that I, unfortunately can't get out of. I really really really need a real person to contact me. Not via email, but by phone ASAP. Awaiting a response.

2nd image: Screenshot of Monthly $4.80 fee automatically being taken from my account (before having my bank block the auto charges for the next 3 years)

3rd image: Screenshot of the March monthly charge, after my bank blocked future charges). This image shows Microsoft changed the location of who is withdrawing from my account, which should definitely be illegal!!!

    Hi @Mr. Biv,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this situation.

I would like to share the following information with you:

When you sign up for a Teams Essentials trial, Microsoft automatically provides a Global Administrator account (for example: ******@xxx.onmicrosoft.com) to access the Admin Center. This is where you can manage and configure your tenant settings.

To cancel the subscription, please access the Admin Center and follow these steps:

Step 1: Sign in to https://admin.microsoft.com using the Global Admin account

Step 2: Go to Billing > Your products, then select the subscription you want to cancel

In addition, if you would like to request a refund for an unwanted subscription, you can create a support ticket with the Billing team. This team specializes in reviewing and handling refund requests.

To create a support ticket, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Sign in to https://admin.microsoft.com using the Global Admin account

Step 2: Select Help & support

The Teams Essentials subscription is a standard Microsoft subscription, not a scam, but it must be cancelled from the correct account and billing location; blocking the card alone will not stop the subscription from renewing.

Follow these steps to cancel and then check refund options:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the same Microsoft account that owns the Teams Essentials subscription (the email address that receives the renewal notices).
    2. Locate the Microsoft Teams Essentials (or related Microsoft 365) subscription in the list and select Manage.
      • If instead of Manage the page shows Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not charge again.
    3. On the Manage page, choose Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on what appears).
    4. Follow the on‑screen steps to complete cancellation. This turns off recurring billing so future renewals stop.

If cancellation options are missing or there is an overdue balance:

    1. Confirm that the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft and not through a third party (such as a mobile app store or retailer). If it was purchased through a third party, cancellation and billing must be handled with that provider.
    2. Ensure any outstanding balance is paid; subscriptions with money owing cannot be cancelled until the overdue amount is cleared.
    3. If the subscription still cannot be cancelled after these checks, use Microsoft’s guided support for subscriptions and billing to get live assistance.

To investigate the repeated charges and request a refund where eligible:

    1. After signing in at https://account.microsoft.com/services, open the Manage your payments section to review each charge and confirm which subscription and account they belong to.
    2. Cancel the subscription as above, then review refund eligibility using the Microsoft subscription refund guidance. Not all cancellations result in a refund, and eligibility can depend on country and subscription length.
    3. For subscriptions such as Teams Essentials, follow the “other Microsoft subscriptions” refund steps: sign in to the Services page, select Manage, choose Cancel, and then follow the prompts. In some countries, a prorated refund may apply.

If the charges are not recognized even after checking the account and Services page, continue working with the bank on dispute options while using the Manage your payments page to identify or contest the charges with Microsoft.
