Microsoft apps freezing up/crashing(Android)

I don't know what started it, but the last few days I've had trouble with some of my Microsoft apps, such as Outlook and Teams.

Outlook: sometimes when I open the app, it comes up a blank white screen and nothing happens, but when it does decide to open up I can't select any email, selecting them does nothing.

Teams: app opens ok, but sometimes can't see or send messages, comes up blank after I type msg and hit send. Other times it shows as sending but doesn't send.

I've removed the apps from my phone and reinstalled, removed my email/Microsoft accounts from my phone, restarts, all apps up to date, rolled back/uninstalled updates to the Android Webview app. And still the issue remains, very very frustrating!

Please help.

    Hi Ian Rendell

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum and apologize for the inconvenience

However, to better assist you, could you please provide the additional information above:

    1. When the issue happens on the phone, do Outlook on the web and Teams on the web work normally for the same account?
    2. Does it reproduce on both Wi‑Fi and cellular (and are you using any VPN/Private DNS/proxy/security/ad‑blocker)?
    3. What are the exact versions: Android OS + Outlook/Teams app versions + Android System WebView/Chrome? (Blank/white screen issues can be version-specific.)

Please review the suggestions given by Q&A Assist first and if those steps do not help you fix the issue, consider checking my questions above and provide more information so I could assist you better.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

For Microsoft Outlook and Teams repeatedly freezing or crashing on Android, use these targeted steps:

    1. Verify device storage and free up space
      • On Android, go to Settings > Storage.
      • Check that there is sufficient free space; low storage can cause apps to hang or fail to load content.
      • If space is low, free it by:
        • Moving photos/videos to a computer or cloud service and deleting local copies.
        • Uninstalling unused apps.
        • Removing music or other large files no longer needed.
    2. Reinstall apps after freeing space
      • Uninstall Outlook and Teams.
      • Restart the device.
      • Reinstall Outlook and Teams from the Play Store.
      • Sign in again and test sending/receiving messages.
    3. Check for Intune/Company Portal management (work or school devices) If the device or apps are managed by an organization (Intune/Company Portal installed):
      • Turn off battery optimization for Outlook and Company Portal in Android settings.
      • In the device’s app Launch settings for Outlook and Company Portal, change from Automatic to Manage manually, then enable:
        • Auto-launch
        • Secondary launch
        • Run in background
      • If Data Saver is enabled, allow unrestricted data usage for Outlook and Company Portal.
      • Ensure notifications are enabled for Outlook and Company Portal. These settings help prevent the system from killing or restricting the apps, which can cause blank screens, failed sends, or sync issues.
    4. If issues persist on a managed device
      • In Outlook for Android, go to Settings > Help & Feedback > Collect Diagnostics > Get Started > Collect Logs and note the incident ID.
      • Contact the organization’s IT/Microsoft 365 admin and provide the incident ID so they can open a support request following the documented Intune support process.
    5. If using personal Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 accounts
      • For Outlook.com addresses (such as @hotmail.com, @live.com), contact Microsoft support if the above steps do not resolve the issue.
      • For work or school Microsoft 365 accounts, contact the Microsoft 365 admin or technical support for further investigation.
