An organization that was deleted can usually be restored, but only by someone with the right admin/owner permissions, and only within a limited time.
For Microsoft 365–backed services (like Teams, Planner/Project, and Microsoft 365 groups):
- When a Microsoft 365 group (and anything that depends on it, such as a Team) is deleted, it goes into a “soft-delete” state for 30 days. During this time, it can be restored.
- A group owner or an administrator with the appropriate role (for example, Groups Administrator or Global Administrator) can restore the deleted group from the Microsoft Entra admin center:
- Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center.
- Go to Microsoft Entra ID → Groups → All groups → Deleted groups.
- Find the deleted group and select Restore group.
- If the organization is using Teams, restoring the underlying Microsoft 365 group restores the team and its content (channels, tabs, etc.). This can take up to 24 hours to fully appear again.
- If the group has been deleted for more than 30 days, it is permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
If the “organization” in question is an Azure DevOps organization (for example, something accessed via dev.azure.com), then:
- After deletion, an Azure DevOps organization is disabled but recoverable for 28 days.
- An organization owner can restore it by:
- Signing in to the Visual Studio profile page.
- Scrolling to Organizations Pending Deletion.
- Selecting Restore next to the deleted organization and confirming.
- After 28 days, the Azure DevOps organization and its data are permanently deleted.
In this scenario, because the account is just a member, restoring the organization or team requires action by the organization’s owner/admin. The member cannot restore it alone. The next step is to contact the organization’s IT/admin or team owner and ask them to restore the deleted Microsoft 365 group or Azure DevOps organization (depending on what was deleted) within the allowed recovery window.
