The best first option is to go to the support page for your laptop on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and manually install the version of touchpad drivers they provide.

    2

If that does not resolve the problem try using these steps to perform a System Restore to a date before the problems started with the touchpad.

Start your laptop, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt... etc.

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to

Use the keyboard to work through these steps to restore mouse and touchpad functionality.

    1. Check basic hardware
    • If using a USB mouse, unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.
    • Try a different USB port.
    • If using a USB hub, plug the mouse directly into the PC instead of the hub.
    • If the mouse is wireless or battery-powered, replace/charge the batteries and make sure there’s no dirt blocking sensors.
    1. Test the mouse on another PC
    • If possible, connect the mouse to another PC.
    • If it also does not work there (no lights, no cursor movement), the mouse likely needs to be replaced.
    1. Check wireless/Bluetooth mouse pairing
    • For a wireless mouse with its own USB receiver: unplug the receiver for ~10 seconds, then plug it back in to re-establish the connection.
    • For Bluetooth mice, follow the device’s instructions to put it into pairing mode and re-pair it after Bluetooth is working.
    1. Update mouse and touchpad drivers via keyboard Use the arrow keys, Tab, and Enter for navigation.

    A. Run Windows Update for drivers

    1. Press the Windows key, type check for updates, then press Enter.
    2. In Windows Update, select Check for updates. Install any available updates, including driver updates.

    B. Update drivers in Device Manager

    1. Press the Windows key, type device manager, then press Enter.
    2. Use Tab and arrow keys to navigate the device tree.
    3. For a USB or external mouse, look under Mice and other pointing devices.
    4. For a touchpad, look under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
    5. Highlight the device, press Enter, go to the Driver tab, choose Update Driver, and follow the prompts.
    6. Reinstall the touchpad driver If updating does not help or the touchpad is missing:
    7. In Device Manager, locate the touchpad under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
    8. Select it, open its properties, and choose Uninstall device.
    9. Restart the PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall the touchpad driver automatically via Windows Update.
    10. If the touchpad still does not appear
    • If updating and reinstalling drivers do not restore the touchpad, contact the device manufacturer for further hardware-specific diagnostics and repair.
