There is an ongoing issue with the "Paste" option in Teams for Windows.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5858984/paste-feature-is-not-working-properly-in-teams-for

Microsoft has identified the issue, and a fix will be provided soon.

Meanwhile, you can use the Ctrl +V keyboard shortcut to paste images and text into Teams chat.

    Hello @Nicki Danielson,

Thank you for sharing the details. I understand how disruptive this can be, especially if copy and paste was working previously.

Before we go further, I’d like to clarify one important point to make sure we’re looking at this from the right angle. I noticed that you’re posting under Business tag, so could you please confirm whether you’re signing in with a work or organization‑provided account (for example, an account issued by your company), or if you’re using a personal account such as outlook.com, hotmail.com, or gmail.com?

If this is a work/organization account, could you also let me know whether any of your colleagues are experiencing the same copy‑and‑paste issue, or if it appears to be affecting only your account?

To help narrow this down further, I have a few additional questions:

    • Are you experiencing this issue in the Microsoft Teams desktop app? If so, have you also tried checking whether the same behavior occurs in Teams on the web? Conversely, if this is happening in Teams on the web, does the same issue occur in the desktop app?
    • Does this issue occur in all chats, or only in a specific type of chat (for example, 1:1 chats, group chats, or channel conversations)?
    • When you try to paste using the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + V or Cmd + V), does anything happen, or is pasting blocked completely?
    • Are you able to copy and paste normally outside of Teams (for example, between Notepad, Word, or a browser)?
    • Did this start after a recent Teams update, Windows update, or policy change that you’re aware of?

This information will help determine whether the behavior is related to the Teams client, clipboard access, or a configuration change. Once I have these details, I’ll be able to suggest the most appropriate next steps.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to your response.

    Kind regards,

In Teams chats, right-click paste can be limited or show only options like “Select all,” especially after recent updates. Use these workarounds and checks:

    1. Use keyboard shortcuts instead of right-click
      • Paste: Ctrl + V
      • Copy: Ctrl + C
      • Paste as plain text (often avoids formatting issues): Ctrl + Shift + V
    2. If using Teams in a browser (Teams for the web)
      • The browser may be blocking clipboard access.
      • In Edge:
        1. Select the lock icon / View site information in the address bar.
        2. Under “Permissions for this site,” find “Clipboard.”
        3. Set it to “Allow.”
      • In Chrome:
        1. Select the View site information button in the address bar.
        2. Find “Clipboard.”
        3. Toggle it On to allow clipboard access.
    3. If pasting URLs and they look shortened
      • Teams may automatically shorten long URLs by design. To avoid extra formatting, use Ctrl + Shift + V to paste as plain text.

If the issue persists in the desktop app, test in Teams on the web (same account) to see if copy/paste works there. If it does, reinstalling or updating the desktop client is recommended.
