Follow these steps in order on the ASUS laptop to troubleshoot Teams installation:

    1. Check for policy restrictions (work/school devices)
      1. Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter to open Local Group Policy Editor.
      2. Go to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > App package Deployment.
      3. Find these policies and make sure they are set to Not configured:
        • Prevent non-admin users from installing packaged Windows apps
        • Allow all trusted apps to install
      4. If these are enforced by an organization, contact the IT admin to change them.
    2. Check registry-based MSIX blocks (if allowed to edit) Teams (new client) installs as an MSIX package and can be blocked by certain registry keys.
      1. Open Registry Editor (regedit).
      2. Check these paths for the keys below:
        • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModelUnlock
        • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Appx
      3. Keys that can block installation:
        • BlockNonAdminUserInstall
        • AllowAllTrustedApps
        • AllowDevelopmentWithoutDevLicense
      4. If AllowAllTrustedApps is disabled, install the latest cumulative Windows update (for example KB5031445/KB5031455 or newer, depending on Windows 10/11) and try again.
    3. Install WebView2 Runtime (for Windows 10 error scenarios) If on Windows 10 and seeing a generic "We’ve run into an issue" message during new Teams install:
      1. Download and install WebView2 Runtime from the official Microsoft Edge WebView2 page: download and install WebView2 Runtime.
      2. Restart the Teams installer and try again.
    4. Clear old Teams data and retry install If Teams was previously installed or partially installed:
      1. Uninstall Teams from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      2. Open File Explorer and in the address bar enter: %appdata%/Microsoft/Teams.
      3. Delete all contents of this folder (skip any file that cannot be deleted).
      4. Restart the laptop.
      5. Download and install Teams again.
    5. Check basic Windows and Store conditions (if installing via Microsoft Store) If using Microsoft Store to install Teams and it does not download or install:
      1. Make sure the PC has been restarted after recent Windows Updates.
      2. Confirm the Microsoft Store Install Service is running:
        • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, press Enter.
        • Find Microsoft Store Install Service.
        • If Disabled, set Startup type to Automatic, click Start, then OK.
        • If Running, right-click and select Restart.
      3. Ensure the app is available in the country/region and that Microsoft family settings or organizational policies are not blocking app installation.
    6. If Teams is for Education (school account) If using a school account (Teams for Education):
      1. Check with the institution’s IT admin that the account is licensed for Teams and that Teams desktop installation is allowed.
      2. If the desktop app still fails, try using Teams in a browser at https://teams.microsoft.com to confirm the account itself works.
      3. If web works but desktop does not, uninstall and reinstall Teams as above.

If, after these steps, Teams still will not install and the device is managed by an organization, the next step is to contact the IT admin to review Group Policy and registry restrictions on app (MSIX) installation.
