    Dear @Nan Williams,

I hope you’re having a good day and thank you for describing your situation so clearly.

What you’re seeing is expected behavior, and your understanding is correct. The Classic Teams app has been fully retired by Microsoft and no longer works, even if it’s still present on the device.

Because this is a company‑provided laptop, installing or switching to the new Teams desktop app isn’t something an end user can always do on their own. On managed corporate devices, application installation and updates are typically controlled by your company’s IT policies, so whether the new Teams app is deployed or pinned to the taskbar is ultimately decided by your IT department.

For now, if you need to keep working immediately, the best temporary option is to use Teams on the web via a browser. It provides full access to chats, meetings, and teams while the desktop app side is being sorted out.

The next step would be to contact your company’s IT administrator and let them know that Classic Teams is no longer usable and that your device still has only the retired client installed. Your IT team can deploy the new Microsoft Teams client, and if needed, remove the old Classic Teams remnants and pin the new app properly to the taskbar across managed devices.

If you’re unsure who your administrator is, this article may help: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?

Microsoft recommends organizations deploy the new Teams client centrally using Intune / Configuration Manager rather than having end users install it manually.

Official guidance can be found here:

Once IT deploys the new Teams client on your device, the taskbar pinning and normal startup behavior can also be handled as part of their standard configuration.

I hope this helps clarify what’s going on and why you’re seeing this behavior. If you get any updates from your IT team or need further help understanding their response, feel free to come back and share more details, I’ll be happy to help further.

Looking forward to hearing back from you with any updates or additional details.

    Warm regards,
