How can I update my pc from widow 7 to widow 10

Please note: That upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 will NOT delete your Facebook or Instagram accounts. As long as you remember login credentials your Facebook or Instagram should be fine. But just to be sure back up your files first. Also, make sure your PC meets Windows 10 requirements (most systems that ran Windows 7 reasonably well can handle Windows 10).

The safest way to move from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is to use Microsoft’s official Media Creation Tool. The old free upgrade trick doesn’t reliably work anymore, so in most cases, you’ll need to buy a Windows 10 product key to activate it after the upgrade.

Here's how to upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 10:

• Download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s website while you’re still on Windows 7.
• Run the tool and choose 'Upgrade this PC now.'
• When asked, select 'Keep personal files and apps' so your data stays put.
• If prompted, enter your Windows 10 product key, or finish the upgrade and activate later in Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

Once you've done that. You’ll be on Windows 10 once the upgrade finishes.

To move from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and keep access to accounts like Facebook and Instagram, follow two main steps: back up your files, then move them to the new Windows 10 PC and sign back into your apps.

1. Back up files on the Windows 7 PC

Use Backup and Restore with an external drive:

1. Connect an external storage device (USB drive, SD card, or external hard drive) to the Windows 7 PC.
2. Select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Backup and Restore.
3. Select Set up backup.
4. Make sure the external drive is connected, then select Refresh.
5. Under Backup destination, select the external drive > Next.
6. Select Let me choose > Next.
7. Leave the default folders (Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos) selected and add any other folders needed by expanding Computer and checking them.
8. Clear the Include a system image of drives checkbox > Next.
9. Select Change schedule, clear Run backup on a schedule, then OK.
10. Select Save settings and run backup and wait for it to complete.
11. Use Eject to safely remove the external drive before unplugging it.

This backs up personal files (documents, photos, etc.). It does not back up sign‑ins for Facebook or Instagram; those are restored by signing in again with the same account credentials.

2. Move files to the Windows 10 PC

After Windows 10 is installed on the PC:

1. Connect the same external drive to the Windows 10 PC.
2. Use Backup and Restore on the new PC to restore files, or manually copy files from the external drive into the Documents, Pictures, and other folders.
3. Restore Facebook and Instagram access

On Windows 10, Facebook and Instagram accounts are not tied to Windows itself. To “restore” them:

1. Open a web browser (for example, Microsoft Edge) on Windows 10.
2. Go to the Facebook and Instagram websites.
3. Sign in with the same email/phone and password used before. All posts, friends, and messages are stored in the online accounts, not on the old PC.

If apps from Microsoft Store are used instead of the browser, install them again from Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and sign in with the same Facebook/Instagram accounts.

For future moves or upgrades, consider using Windows Backup on Windows 10/11 to back up files, settings, and apps to a Microsoft account, which makes moving to a new PC easier.
