Outlook app requires sign in, then gets stuck in black screen

I didn't use my outlook in a couple of weeks and it signed out again, so I was prompted with the 'sign in' button, but pressing it just moves to a black screen.

What can I do?

    Hi @Sk

Thank you for reporting this issue and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I've seen several users with the same problem. This mainly happens on Android devices, especially Samsung. Could you tell me if you use a Samsung or another device?

I found a method that might help you with this issue:

Please follow the exact steps below:

    1. Settings -> Apps -> Search for "Android System WebView" -> App Details In Store -> Remove Updates
    2. Reboot
    3. Settings -> Apps -> Search for "Android System WebView" -> App Details In Store -> Update
    • Note: If "Android System WebView" doesn't appear in the app list, go to: Settings -> Google -> All services -> System Services -> Select "Android System WebView"
    1. Reboot
    2. Launch Outlook & log in.

On Outlook for Android, the “account disconnected” prompt followed by a black screen when tapping Sign in usually indicates the app needs the account to be reauthenticated and the sign-in flow is failing.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Re‑sign into the account in Outlook mobile
      • Open the Outlook app.
      • When “account disconnected” appears, tap the button to sign in again and complete the sign‑in flow.
      • If the black screen persists, continue with the next steps.
    2. Remove and re‑add the email account in the Outlook app
      • Open Outlook.
      • Go to the app’s settings.
      • Remove the problematic email account from Outlook.
      • Close and reopen Outlook.
      • Add the account again from scratch and complete sign‑in.
    3. If the app is still stuck or crashing
      • Clear the Outlook app data/cache from Android settings, then reopen Outlook and sign in again.
      • If that does not help, uninstall the Outlook app, restart the phone, reinstall Outlook from the store, and then add the account again.
    4. If sign‑in still fails or sync stops working
      • For Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, contact the Microsoft 365 admin or technical support, as tenant policies or device access rules may be blocking sign‑in.
      • For Outlook.com accounts (such as @hotmail.com, @live.com, etc.), contact Microsoft support via the Outlook.com support channel.
