This week (following an update) I am having issues accessing the Google homepage and therefore my gmail. It does not respond at all. Yesterday I deleted history, cleared cache etc and it let me access the google page and sign in. However on trying again today I am getting the same unresponsive page. I am on Windows 11, using Microsoft Edge and have a Asus laptop. Any suggestions? Thank you

    Hello Jason Sewell,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Before we proceed, may I know if the same issue happens with another websites or just Google? Especially website that from Google or use Google account to sign in (YouTube for example). Additionally, does it happen with another browser as well?

    I'm waiting for your reply.

Try the following steps in order on the Windows 11 Asus laptop with Microsoft Edge:

    1. Check if it is only Google that is affected
      • Open another website (for example, a news site) in Edge.
      • If other sites work but Google does not, continue with the steps below.
      • If no sites work, restart the modem/router and check the network as described later.
    2. Clear browsing data again (all time)
Since clearing history and cache temporarily helped, clear all browsing data for a longer range:
      1. In Edge, select Settings and more (three dots) > History > Open history page.
      2. Select Delete browsing data.
      3. Set Time range to All time.
      4. Select at least Browsing history and Cached images and files (optionally cookies and other site data if acceptable).
      5. Select Clear now.
      6. Close Edge completely and reopen it, then try the Google homepage again.
    3. Disable or update security software
      • If third‑party antivirus or security software (for example, Norton, McAfee) is installed, open it and check for updates to ensure it is up to date.
      • Out‑of‑date security software can interfere with specific sites.
    4. Verify Edge and Windows are up to date
      • In Edge, select Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge and let it check for and apply any updates.
      • In Windows 11, select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates, then install any available updates and restart the device.
    5. Check if the issue is network‑related or site‑specific
      • Try opening the Google homepage in another browser on the same device (for example, another installed browser).
      • If it also fails, restart the modem and router: power them off for about 30 seconds, then power them back on and wait for the connection to restore.
      • If Google still does not load but other sites do, the problem may be specific to Google or the network path to it; try again later or from a different network.
    6. Repair Microsoft Edge
If the problem persists only in Edge:
      1. Close Edge for all users on the device.
      2. Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      3. Find Microsoft Edge, select it, then select Modify.
      4. When prompted Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?, select Yes.
      5. Ensure the device is connected to the internet and select Repair.
      6. After the repair completes, open Edge and test the Google homepage again.
    7. If the issue continues
      • In Edge, select Settings and more > Help and feedback > Send feedback to report the issue, including that it started after a recent update and affects only the Google homepage and Gmail.
