    Hi Dan Bothmann,

Recording a voicemail greeting in Teams is handled through a separate voice session. Because it requires starting a system call to capture your recording, Teams cannot run it while you are already on another call. You’ll need to end or exit the current call before updating your voicemail greeting.

It’s a system-level design, the backend dependency requires switching you into a dedicated voicemail recording flow and temporarily disconnecting or pausing other call activities.

However, I believe this process could be greatly impacting to your workflow and evaluate your work, I highly recommend submitting a suggestion directly from Teams navigating to: Microsoft Teams · Community. This is the most effective way to ensure your voice reaches the product team and can be considered for future improvements.

Replacing or cancelling a voicemail in Microsoft Teams while the caller is still recording is not supported.

In Teams, once a call is redirected to voicemail, the system follows the configured call answer rules and records the message until the caller hangs up or the maximum recording duration is reached. After the message is left, it is delivered to the callee’s Exchange mailbox as a voicemail item. The documentation and settings only cover:

    • How calls are routed to voicemail and handled once they reach voicemail (call answer rules).
    • How to configure greetings, including text-to-speech and out-of-office greetings.
    • How to access and review voicemail messages and transcripts after they are left.

    There is no option to:

    • Interrupt a caller’s in-progress voicemail and replace it with another recording.
    • Edit or overwrite a voicemail message after it has been recorded.

The only controllable behavior is before or instead of voicemail, via call answer rules (for example, transferring to someone else or ending the call instead of recording a message).
