Hi, I am trying to turn a powerpoint into a video. I see on several videos that you can add music to your PP video by going to "record", then audio and "add from pc". However, I do not have that option on my powerpoint. Do I need to upgrade the program? The only option is to record my voice. Thank you for your help!

    Hi! Let me help you.

    Have you tried these steps?

    Open your PowerPoint

    Go to Insert

    Click Audio

    Select Audio on My PC

    Choose your music file.

Try updating PowerPoint if you do not see those options.

File → Account → Update Options → Update Now

PowerPoint does not require an upgrade specifically to add music, but the command location and wording differ from what is shown in some videos.

In current Windows versions of PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 / 2021 / 2024, background music is added through Insert → Audio, not through the Record menu.

To add music from the PC to a presentation that will be exported as a video:

    1. Open the presentation and go to the slide where the music should start (usually slide 1).
    2. On the ribbon, select Insert > Audio > Audio on My PC.
    3. In the Insert Audio dialog, choose the music file and select Insert.
    4. Select the audio icon on the slide, then go to the Playback tab.
    5. Under Playback, configure how the audio behaves:
      • Use Start to choose how it begins (for background music, typically Automatically).
      • Use Play Across Slides and/or Loop until Stopped or Play in Background if the music should continue while slides advance.

After the audio is configured, export the presentation as a video:

    1. Select File > Export > Create a Video (or on the Recording tab, Export to Video).
    2. Choose the desired video quality and narration/timings options.
    3. Create the video; the added audio will be included in the output.

If Insert → Audio → Audio on My PC is not visible, the installation might be an older or different edition than those covered in the referenced articles, or running in a limited environment. In that case, updating Office to a current Microsoft 365 / perpetual version that supports audio insertion, or repairing the Office installation, would be required to match the documented behavior.
