My laptop's model 5E573 internal microphone seems to not work at all, in spite of trying everything I could. When I use wired headphones, the bar in the microphone in 'Sound' does work, and bluetooth headphones seem to work as well as a separate microphone device in the list in 'Sound'. I tried the following and the problem still persists. AND if i touch any area part of touch pad surroundings then tickling sound produced through speaker. and i also checked my internal mic by online mic test its working there but not taking my voice command.

  1. Did all the pending Windows updates (which were not detected for over a year due to an error)
  2. Automatically updated microphone drivers
  3. Updated microphone drivers with Audio Endpoint
  4. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers
  5. Manually downloaded and installed Realtek audio drivers from my laptop's website
  6. Checked all the settings as suggested in various forums and solution videos, such unmute mic, allow mic permission, enable devices, troubleshoot, etc.

The troubleshooting of audio had returned a message 'Generic audio device detected', which I couldn't solve, in case that helps. In spite of all this, my internal microphone still seems to not work. However, I can often hear a vague noise feedback when i turn on the 'listen to the device' option in microphone properties, but does not register on the sound bar for 'Microphone'. i updated window and reinstalled but no use of it. i visited technician he replied mic hardware part is all well.

Kindly help me solve this as I have been suffering without microphone on my laptop for over a year now, and hoped that the pending Windows updates would finally completely solve this issue, which it didn't. Thanks in advance!

Follow these steps in order, focusing on Windows 10 settings and drivers, since external mics work but the internal one does not respond to voice.

    1. Confirm app access to the microphone
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
      2. Select Change, and turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.
      3. Under Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your microphone, turn on access for the apps that need voice commands.
      4. Make sure Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is set to On.
    2. Make the internal mic the default input and test it
      1. Select Start, then Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Input, in Choose your input device, select the internal microphone (not the USB or Bluetooth headset).
      3. Speak normally and watch Test your microphone. If the bar does not move, continue with the next steps.
    3. Check that the internal mic is not muted and levels are high enough
      1. In Settings > System > Sound, under Input, select the internal microphone and then Device properties.
      2. On the Levels tab of Microphone Properties, increase Microphone and Microphone Boost sliders, then select OK.
      3. Speak again and check Test your microphone.
    4. Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter
      1. Select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
      2. Select Recording Audio and run the troubleshooter.
      3. Apply any fixes it suggests, then test the internal mic again in Sound settings.
    5. Reinstall and refresh audio drivers (for cases where Windows shows “Generic audio device detected”)
      1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
      2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. For each audio device related to the internal sound card (e.g., Realtek), right‑click and select Uninstall device.
      4. Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device (or Delete the driver software for this device) and select Uninstall.
      5. Restart the PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall audio devices and drivers automatically.
      6. If they do not reinstall, in Device Manager, right‑click Sound, video and game controllers and select Scan for hardware changes.
      7. After devices appear, right‑click the audio driver and select Update driver.
    6. If the internal mic still does not respond
      • Confirm again in Settings > System > Sound that the internal mic is selected as the input device and that Test your microphone shows no activity.
      • Since external mics work and a technician has checked the hardware, the most likely remaining causes are:
        • Incorrect or corrupted OEM audio driver package (try a different Realtek version from the Acer support site, repeating step 5 after each change).
        • A system‑level configuration issue that may require a repair install or reset of Windows, after backing up data.

Because the internal mic works in an online mic test but not for voice commands, focus especially on:

    • Microphone privacy permissions (step 1).
    • Ensuring the correct input device is selected (step 2).
    • Input levels and mute state (step 3).
