I tried to install Windows 11 on my Surface laptop by following these general steps:

  1. Prepare Installation Media: You can create a bootable USB drive with the Windows 11 installation media. Make sure to download the Windows 11 ISO from the official Microsoft website.
  2. Enable USB Boot: Insert the USB drive into your Surface device and reboot. You may need to enable USB boot in the BIOS settings, which could require temporarily disabling Secure Boot.
  3. Install Windows 11: Boot from the USB drive, and the installation process will begin. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

After this, when I am trying to boot from installation media, it asks to input instructions to install Windows, but at this time, my built-in keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen does not work. If I connect an external mouse or keyboard that works. Kindly provide me with a solution.

    Hi Naved Malik,

I understand how confusing this can be, especially when everything works normally, but suddenly stops responding during installation.

    Please try these solutions:

Solution 1: Use the official Surface Recovery Image (Recommended)

Microsoft recommends reinstalling Windows using a Surface-specific recovery image, which includes all required drivers:

    • It will reinstall Windows with correct drivers and firmware
    • Ensures keyboard/touchpad work during setup

    Official steps: https://support.microsoft.com/surface-recovery-image

Solution 2: Continue installation with external keyboard/mouse

Since your external devices are already working:

    • You can finish installing Windows using USB keyboard/mouse
    • After installation completes:
      • Install Surface drivers manually from Microsoft
