Additional chat-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Hi @CARRILLO, CINDY,
Thank you for reaching out.
When links shared in Microsoft Teams cannot be opened or fail during the verification process, this is usually related to link protection policies, Teams client configuration, or browser/security settings applied to the account or tenant.
Please try the following troubleshooting steps:
1/ Sign out and sign back in to Microsoft Teams
This refreshes authentication and session data and can resolve temporary verification issues.
2/ Test the link in Teams on the web
Open Microsoft Teams in a browser https://teams.cloud.microsoft/and click the same link to compare behavior. If the link works in the web app but not in the desktop app, the issue is likely related to the local Teams client. In that case, clearing the Teams cache is a supported troubleshooting step.
3/ Repair or reset the Teams app
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Teams > Advanced options, then select Repair or Reset.
4/ Clear the Teams cache
Windows – New Teams
- Quit Teams
- Press Win + R and paste: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
- Delete the contents of the folder
- Restart Teams
macOS – New Teams
- Quit Teams
- Open Terminal and run:
rm -rf ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.com.microsoft.teams
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2
- Restart Teams
Note: After clearing the cache, Teams may take longer to load the first time while rebuilding local data.
For reference: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn.
5/ If the issue persists
Please ask your IT administrator to review the following tenant‑level settings:
- Safe Links policy for Microsoft Teams: Safe Links in Microsoft Defender for Office 365. Safe Links can scan and block links at click time. Changes to this policy may take up to 24 hours to fully apply.
- Teams malicious URL protection: Malicious URL protection in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Teams
- Also confirm whether the link is being intentionally blocked by policy. Depending on the configuration, users may or may not be allowed to proceed after a warning page.
If the problem continues after trying the steps above, please share the exact error message shown when opening the link, as this will help narrow down the cause.
I hope this helps. Please let me know the results after testing these steps so we can continue troubleshooting if needed.
