I need to log into an old skype account. I know my username and password, but am unsure how to migrate it to teams. When I try to login with my skype username, it gives me an old phone number to get a verification code with, so I cant do that. I try useing my password but it says there have been to many incorrect attempts, and to try again later. Is there any support I can contact for this?

To get back into the old Skype account and move to Microsoft Teams Free, use these steps and support options from Microsoft:

    1. Because sign-in is blocked after too many attempts, start with the standard account recovery paths rather than repeatedly retrying the password.
    2. If the issue is that the password is not accepted or the account is locked:
      • Use the Skype/Microsoft account recovery flow: go to the account recovery form.
      • Provide the Skype Name, email, and phone number details requested, plus an alternate email where Microsoft can contact you.
      • After submitting, it can take up to 24 hours for verification; results are sent to the alternate email.
      • Guidance for filling out the form is here: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
    3. If the problem is specifically that the verification code is going to an old phone number, the recovery form above is also the supported way to prove ownership and update security info when normal verification methods are not available.
    4. Once access to the Skype/Microsoft account is restored:
      • Sign in to Microsoft Teams Free using the same Skype credentials (Skype Name, or the email/phone associated with that Skype account).
      • Teams Free will automatically bring over Skype contacts and chats when signing in with the same account, as described in Find your Skype chat and contacts in Microsoft Teams Free.
    5. If sign-in problems continue, use the sign-in helper and Skype sign-in guidance:
      • Start from the Skype sign-in problems page: Sign-in problems.
      • From there, follow the “I’ve forgotten my Skype user name or password” and other troubleshooting links as needed.
    6. To contact support for additional help:
      • Use the Skype support entry point: Contact Skype support.
      • From that page, choose “I’m having trouble signing in to Skype” and follow the prompts to reach support options.

After Skype is retired in May 2025, Microsoft Teams Free becomes the primary path, but access to the underlying Microsoft account must be restored first via the recovery and support options above.
