Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue accessing the shared assessment in Microsoft Teams.
In most cases, this behavior occurs because the student is not included in the assignment’s target list, or because the account currently signed in is different from the one enrolled in the class, or because there is a permission or synchronization issue with the file or resource attached to the assessment.
To support further troubleshooting, please let me know whether an error message appears when selecting the shared assessment and, if so, what it says, or whether the assignment is missing entirely from the Assignments tab.
In the meantime, please try the steps outlined below from the student’s side. If the issue persists, the lecturer or IT administrator may need to review the additional items listed toward the end.
1/ Confirm the correct account is being used
If multiple accounts are signed in (for example, a school and a personal account), Teams may display the class but fail to open assignment resources.
Select the profile picture in Teams and confirm the signed‑in email address
Sign out completely, close Teams, then sign back in using the same account enrolled in the class.
2/ Switch Teams client
- Try accessing Teams via the web: https://teams.cloud.microsoft/
- If currently using the web version, try the desktop app instead
- Alternatively, open the link in an InPrivate/Incognito browser window and sign in with the school account
If the assignment opens in one client but not another, this typically indicates a local cache or session issue.
3/ Contact your lecturer
Please reach out to your lecturer to let them know that the shared assessment is not accessible on your account. Ask them to verify whether your account has been correctly added to the assignment’s target list.
If the issue continues after this check, please ask your lecturer to contact the IT helpdesk to review the following:
Your role in the class team (Student vs. Guest)
Any policies or conditional access settings that may be affecting access to SharePoint or OneDrive resources used by the assignment
Please understand that student accounts are managed directly by the school administrators and as forum moderators, we do not have access to or control over student accounts. This includes actions such as logging in, resetting passwords, or changing account permissions. Only your school IT team has the ability to adjust license assignment.
Please try the steps above and share the results so the next troubleshooting steps can be determined if needed.
