Critical: All Microsoft Graph requests throttled at App level (50 RPM) since 29 April 2026

We are experiencing a critical production issue where all our Microsoft Graph requests are being throttled at the application level starting early morning 29th April 2026.

The throttling is happening under the category:

throttle.aad.ags.50RPM, which limits our application to 50 requests per minute.

This behavior is unexpected and appears to be a platform-side change, as our application has been functioning normally prior to this without hitting such limits.

Impact:

  • Affects all users (~120,000+)
  • Occurs across all tenants
  • Not limited to specific users or scenarios
  • Causing major disruption in production workflows
  • Core functionality dependent on Graph APIs is failing

Error Details:

{

"error": {

"code": "TooManyRequests",

"message": "Too many requests from Identifier:[Moderator note: personal info removed] under category:throttle.aad.ags.50RPM. Please try again later.",

"innerError": {

  "date": "2026-04-29T03:40:25",

  "request-id": "[Moderator note: personal info removed] ",

  "client-request-id": "[Moderator note: personal info removed] "

}
```  }
}
    Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.
    Hi Deepak Sharma
    Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum and for taking the time to provide detailed information about your issue. I understand how critical this situation is, especially for production workloads.
    Based on the details you shared, I’ve reviewed the currently available documentation and resources, but I haven’t found any information that clearly explains this specific throttling behavior.
    Given that this appears to affect multiple tenants and users, and seems to be a sudden change, it will likely require a deeper investigation from the Microsoft Support team, who have access to backend service diagnostics.
    I recommend opening a support ticket through Service Hub so the support team can take a closer look and investigate further.
    Please note that access to the Services Hub depends on your organization’s support agreement and may require a paid support plan. You can review the requirements and sign-in conditions in the Services Hub sign-in FAQs before submitting a request.
    Please understand that this is a public peer-to-peer community forum. While moderators and community members can share guidance and experiences, we do not have access to internal service diagnostics or the ability to investigate tenant-specific or backend service behavior.
    Thank you again for your patience and understanding. I will continue to monitor for any updates, and if new information becomes available, I will share it here.
