    Hello Singh,

Thank you for posting question on Microsoft Windows Forum!

Based on your query of updating Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro. Well! You can upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro directly through the Microsoft Store or by entering a valid Windows 11 Pro product key. The upgrade costs around $99–$129 USD depending on the region, and your files, apps, and settings will remain intact during the process.

To upgrade via Microsoft Store. You can open Settings → System → Activation. Select Upgrade your edition of Windows. The Microsoft Store will open to the Windows 11 Pro upgrade page. Purchase the upgrade. Restart your PC after installation. To upgrade using a product key, on the other hand, you can go to Settings → System → Activation. Click Change product key. Enter your 25-character Windows 11 Pro key. Follow prompts and restart.

Since your organization requires domain join, upgrading via the Microsoft Store is advisable and most straightforward option. Back up your files first, purchase the upgrade, and you will be ready to connect your laptops to the company domain without losing data.

To upgrade Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro and join devices to a domain, use one of these supported methods.

    1. Check current edition and activation
    • On the laptop, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation (or use this shortcut: Open System > Activation).
    • Confirm:
      • Edition shows Windows 11 Home.
      • Activation state shows that Windows is activated. If it is not activated, activate Windows 11 Home first.
    1. Choose how to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro There are two main options:

    A. Upgrade via Microsoft Store (no existing Pro key)

Use this if there is no Windows 11 Pro product key and the Pro license will be purchased online.

    1. On the device, open Settings > System > Activation.
    2. Under Upgrade your edition of Windows, select it to expand.
    3. Select Open Store. This opens the Microsoft Store to the Windows 11 Pro upgrade page (or use this shortcut: Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro).
    4. Purchase the upgrade to Windows 11 Pro and follow the prompts.
    5. The device will upgrade and restart.

Cost: The price is shown in the Microsoft Store for the region and currency. (Pricing is not listed in the context; check directly in the Store.)

    B. Upgrade using an existing Windows 11 Pro product key

Use this if the organization already owns valid Windows 11 Pro product keys (for example, from volume licensing or retail).

    1. Confirm Windows 11 Home is activated (see step 1).
    2. Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation or use Open System > Activation.
    3. Next to Change product key, select Change.
    4. If prompted by User Account Control, sign in with an account that has local administrator rights and select Yes.
    5. In Change product key, enter the 25-character Windows 11 Pro product key.
    6. Select Next and follow the prompts to start the upgrade. The device will restart.
    7. Data and apps impact
    • The edition upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro is an in-place upgrade.
    • User data, installed applications, and settings are kept.
    • As with any system change, it is recommended to back up important data before upgrading in case of unexpected issues.
    1. After upgrading: join to domain or Microsoft Entra ID Once the edition is Windows 11 Pro, additional business features are available, including:
    • Ability to join a domain or Microsoft Entra ID.
    • BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    • Remote Desktop.

Then use the organization’s standard process to join devices to the on-premises domain or Microsoft Entra ID.

    1. If devices are not yet on Windows 11 If any devices are running older, unsupported Windows versions, there is no free upgrade path directly from unsupported versions to Windows 11. For those:
    • Either purchase and install a full version of Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro on supported hardware, or
    • Buy new PCs that come with Windows 11 preinstalled.
    • After installing Windows 11 Home, use the steps above to move to Pro if needed.
