Hello,

My laptop has started changing the time automatically, and it is consistently showing a time that is 3 to 4 hours behind the actual local time. I have tried to fix this through the settings, but the issue persists, and I haven’t been able to resolve it.

Could you please help me troubleshoot and correct this problem?

Thank you for your support.

    Open the Settings App.

Go to Time and Language - Date and Time.

Toggle off the setting to set the Time Zone and Time Automatically.

Wait a few seconds, then toggle those settings back on.

If that does not resolve the problem, in Time and Language - Language and Region, ensure your correct location is set.

If that does not resolve the problem, open the old Controls Panel.
Set View at the top of the old Control Panel to large icons.

Open the Date and Time applet.

Select the Internet Time tab and use the drop-down menu to change the Time Server Windows uses.

Apply that setting and restart (not shut down) your PC to apply the change.

Follow these steps in Windows 10 to correct the time being 3–4 hours behind:

    1. Open the Date & time settings
      1. Select Start > Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
      2. Or use this shortcut if available: Date & time.
    2. Set time automatically
      1. In Date & time, turn Set time automatically On.
      2. If it is already On and still wrong, switch it Off, wait a few seconds, then switch it On again to force resync.
    3. Check the time zone
      1. In the same Date & time window, under Time zone:
        • Turn Set time zone automatically On if allowed on the device.
        • If automatic time zone is not available or is incorrect, turn Set time zone automatically Off.
        • Under Time zone, choose the correct local time zone from the drop-down list.
      2. After changing the time zone, confirm that the displayed time now matches local time.
    4. (If needed) Adjust daylight saving time
      1. In Date & time, make sure Set time zone automatically is On so daylight saving time is handled automatically.
      2. If Set time zone automatically is Off, ensure Adjust for daylight saving time automatically is On (if your region observes DST). If it is Off, you may need to set the time manually as described above.
    5. Manually set the time (if automatic still fails)
      1. In Date & time, turn Set time automatically Off.
      2. Under Set the date and time manually, select Change.
      3. In Change date and time, set the correct Date and Time, then select Change.

If the time continues to be 3–4 hours behind after these steps, verify that the selected time zone is exactly the one for the current location (for example, not a neighboring region with a different offset or daylight saving rule).
