Teams Web not fully loading

Hi there,

I've used Teams for a year now on my phone where it works perfectly, but I have an interview in a few days time and I would prefer to access the Teams call via my desktop as this is more professional! I have never used Teams on my desktop, which is a mac OS High Sierra 10.13 and impossible to update, but otherwise very capable. I am using the last version of Chrome which my desktop supports, which is Version 116.0.5845.187. I can't download the Teams application because my desktop can't support the latest version (and I don't think it's possible to download older versions?)

When I try and access the Teams Web site, it only half loads. As in, a pale grey screen appears with icons to the left saying Chat, Meet, People, Communities, Calendar and Activity, as you would expect, but nothing else appears on the screen. There is some activity in the right bottom corner, where a box appears first with a camera icon set to enabled, then disabled, and three buttons displaying icons such as link, calendar and hashtag, and a title saying "Meet". I have included a screenshot of what appears when I try to load this site. The buttons are un-clickable!

I have enabled Microsoft Teams under "Sites that can always use cookies" in Chrome, cleared my browsing cache and restarted my system, but I still get the same error in loading.

Is there a solution to this problem or are my browser and system simply too old? In which case, is it possible to download a version of the Teams application which is compatible with my mac?Screen Shot 2026-04-29 at 12.31.13

    Hi @Grace Walsh

From what you’ve shared, it looks like a few compatibility limits are coming into play. The current Microsoft Teams desktop app supports only the three most recent macOS versions, so macOS High Sierra 10.13 isn’t compatible with it anymore. Microsoft has also phased out the classic Teams client on this version of macOS, which means there isn’t an official desktop app option available for High Sierra now.

Regarding Teams on the web, the Chrome version you mentioned, 116.0.5845.187, is older than what Teams web currently supports. Teams on the web works best with the latest three versions of Chrome, since it relies on newer browser features. When those aren’t available, the app can appear to load only partially, which matches what you’re seeing. You can review the current browser requirements here if it’s helpful: Teams for Web - Overview and prerequisites - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

User's image If you’d like, you can try checking whether another browser on your Mac can be updated to a supported version, although in my experience this can be somewhat limited. For something as important as an interview, you may want to consider using or borrowing another device that supports a newer operating system or browser, or ideally one that can run the Teams desktop app, just to help ensure everything runs smoothly.

I just wanted to kindly clarify that this is a usertouser support forum, so my role here is to help explain the limitations involved and share my own insights based on research and experience. Unfortunately, I’m not able to provide direct fixes beyond that, but please know I’m genuinely trying to contribute and engage as much as I can to support you.

Thank you again for your understanding, and regardless, I wish you all the very best with your upcoming interview. I hope it goes smoothly and successfully for you.

This is based on my own experience only, so no guaranty that this will work for you too,

I was able to run Teams for Web on a Windows 7 computer using the latest Firefox browser. No other browsers were capable of running Teams on this Windows 7 computer.

I don't know if this will also work on an old Mac, but you can try.

Teams on the web requires a supported, up-to-date browser. For desktop use, Teams is supported in “the latest version plus two previous versions” of Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) and Google Chrome.

The Chrome version available on macOS High Sierra (116) is older than the currently supported range, so Teams web may not load correctly or may only partially render, as in the screenshot. This is expected behavior when using an unsupported browser/OS combination.

Teams also does not support Internet Explorer 11, and there is no supported way in the documentation to install older, out-of-support desktop clients just to work around OS limitations.

Given the documented requirements, the macOS High Sierra device with Chrome 116 is effectively below the supported baseline for Teams on the web, and there is no documented, supported Teams desktop client for that OS. A supported option would be to join the interview from:

    • A device that can run a supported browser version (for example, a newer macOS, Windows, or another desktop that can install a current Edge/Chrome), or
    • The Teams mobile app, which is supported for joining meetings when the desktop environment does not meet prerequisites.
