I cannot change to offline voices no matter all the "work arounds" presented! from system restore to looking for issues in the registery, nothing works. I cannot change back to offline voices as that option is not available

Edge’s Read Aloud relies on a dual-engine architecture. It pulls the highly realistic, natural-sounding voices from Azure Neural TTS when you are connected, but falls back to the native Windows OneCore Speech API (SAPI) for offline use. When those offline voices are completely grayed out, it’s rarely a simple browser UI glitch. It usually means Edge's security sandbox has lost the handshake with your local OS voice tokens—often because a background update unlinked the directory.

Since system restores and basic tweaks didn't work, we need to force the OS to rebuild those packages and allow Edge to see them. Try these two system-level overrides:

Force a SAPI Re-provision: Open Windows Settings > Time & language > Speech. Delete your currently installed voice packages. Next, open PowerShell as Administrator and run: sfc /scannow. Once that finishes, go back to Settings and re-download the voice packages. This forces a clean write to the core TTS registry keys that Edge looks for.

Bypass the Audio Sandbox: Sometimes Edge's strict sandboxing blocks local TTS enumeration entirely. Right-click your Edge desktop shortcut, hit Properties, and in the Target field, add a space and then append --disable-features=AudioServiceSandbox to the end of the target path. Relaunch Edge.

Hope this forces the engine handshake to resolve and gets your offline voices back! Let me know if it still refuses to initialize.
