Unable to Delete Spark Pool

I am trying to delete a spark pool from a workspace but I am unable to. I have verified that this Spark pool is no longer referenced by any notebooks, pipelines, or historical workloads, and all known dependencies have been removed or reassigned. Despite this, deletion still fails. What are next steps?

Thanks for checking all the visible dependencies already that definitely rules out the most common causes. When a Spark pool still can’t be deleted after that, it’s usually due to hidden or system-level references that aren’t obvious in the UI.

One thing to verify is whether there are any references in unpublished changes or other Git branches. Sometimes notebooks, linked services, or Spark job definitions still point to the pool in a draft state, so it helps to make sure everything is fully published and cleaned up across all branches. Microsoft also notes that dependencies can persist outside the main workspace view, which can block deletion.

It’s also worth confirming that there are no active Spark sessions or background operations tied to the pool. Even system jobs such as library installations or recently completed sessions can temporarily keep the pool in use. Waiting a bit and retrying after ensuring the pool is completely idle can sometimes resolve this.

If everything looks clean and the issue still persists, this typically points to a stuck backend state where the pool is held in a transient or inconsistent state. In such cases, retrying the delete operation after some time or making a minor update to the pool (to refresh its state) can help clear the condition.
