I noticed some answers are from "Microsoft External Staff". I'm assuming this is some type of contracted position. Is this a position people apply for or one that Microsoft offers to these that consistently answer community questions?

Microsoft External Staff refers to individuals who are not direct employees of Microsoft but are affiliated with the company in some capacity. They may include contractors, consultants, or other external professionals who contribute to Microsoft projects or provide support within the Microsoft community. Their involvement can vary, but they are recognized for their expertise and contributions in various areas related to Microsoft products and services.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, there is no job recruitment program associated with this designation.
