Hi Stephen Ajayi,
I understand your touchpad stopped working in Windows after the recent update, even though it still works in BIOS. Please try the following:
1, Check if the touchpad device is hidden/disabled
- Press “Windows + X” > Device Manager
- Expand “Human Interface Devices” and “Mice and other pointing devices”
- Click “View” > “Show hidden devices”
- Look for:
- “HID-compliant touchpad”
- “I2C HID Device”
- If found:
- Right-click > “Enable device” (if available)
2, Roll back the driver
- In Device Manager, right-click your touchpad device
- Select “Properties” > “Driver” tab
- Click “Roll Back Driver” (if available)
3, Install HP-specific driver
Even if you already tried reinstalling:
- Go to HP support for your model
- Download the original Synaptics/ELAN touchpad driver
- Install manually > restart
Windows Update may install a generic driver that breaks I2C touchpads.
4, Check if the I2C device has an error
- In Device Manager, expand “System devices”
- Look for “I2C HID Device”
- Check if there is:
- Yellow warning icon
- Error in “Device status”
If yes, this confirms a driver/communication issue
