I have renewed my account. Signed in numerous times. When I launch Word I am asked to activate. I do so with user name and password. However, I get 'no account associated with that user name'. In trying to solve this online I am trapped in a circular trap that keeps asking me to sign in.

    Hi!

In trying to solve this online I am trapped in a circular trap that keeps asking me to sign in. Even when trying to log in on the web, you can't log in?

If you cannot access your account, check if it is locked:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/unblock-my-outlook-com-account-f4ad2701-d166-4d8b-8a6a-9af2a1f8a4c4

If you can access your account normally and have verified that the license is active, try performing an online repair in Microsoft 365.

    1. Open Windows Settings (Windows + I) > Apps > Installed Apps.
    2. Search for "Microsoft 365" or "Microsoft Office <Year> (2019, 2021)" > Click on the 3 Dots (●●●) > Change > Online Repair > Repair.
    3. When the repair is complete, restart your computer.

Follow these steps to break the sign‑in/activation loop and fix the “no account associated with that user name” message:

    1. Confirm which subscription is active and what it includes
      1. Go to the Microsoft account services page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      2. Sign in with the email address being used in Word.
      3. Under Subscriptions, check:
        • That the subscription is active and not expired.
        • That it is a plan which includes desktop Office apps (for example, Microsoft 365 Personal or Family). A Microsoft 365 Basic subscription does not include the right to install desktop apps; it only gives 100 GB OneDrive and web apps. In that case, Word on the desktop will not activate with that account.
    2. If the subscription is active and includes desktop apps, make sure the correct account is used in Word
      1. Open Word.
      2. Go to File > Account.
      3. If a different account is shown under “User Information,” select Sign out.
      4. Close Word.
      5. Reopen Word, go to File > Account, and choose Sign in.
      6. Sign in with the same account that shows the active Microsoft 365 subscription on the services page.
      7. In File > Account, use Update license (if available), then sign in again with that same account.
    3. If Word still says “no account associated with that user name”
      1. Verify again on https://account.microsoft.com/services that the same email address being entered in Word is the one that has the active subscription.
      2. If the subscription is active but Word still will not activate, follow the activation troubleshooting steps:
        • Sign out of all Office apps.
        • Check for multiple copies of Office installed and remove extras.
        • Confirm the subscription has not expired.
        • Then retry activation.
    4. If the account cannot be recognized at all
      • Use the Sign-in Helper tool to diagnose sign‑in issues and recover access if needed: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2214157
      • If the username or password has stopped working, or the account cannot be found, follow the guidance in “I can't sign in to my Microsoft account” to reset the password or look up the correct Microsoft account.
    5. If the subscription is active, the correct account is used, and activation still fails
      • Follow the steps in “The account isn't associated with this Office product” article:
        • Sign out of Microsoft 365 and sign back in with the correct Work/School or personal account (as applicable).
        • Remove Office credentials from Credential Manager and disconnect any old Work/School account under Settings > Accounts > Access work or school, then restart and try activation again.
        • If needed, reset the Microsoft 365 activation state as described in the article.

If after these checks Word still reports no license for that account, contact Microsoft Support from the subscription/billing page so they can verify the license is correctly attached to the account.
