"Folder has been moved or deleted" after SharePoint Site Swap

I encounter the error "The folder you're looking for has been moved or deleted" whenever I click the Files tab in our "Marketing General" channel. This started happening after we performed a SharePoint Site Swap to replace the old root site with a modern communication site. While I can access the files perfectly by clicking "Open in SharePoint," the integrated Teams view is completely broken. It seems like the Teams "Channel Folder" link is still pointing to the old site’s Document Library ID instead of the new one.

    Dear @Toharu Knapf,

To assist this, Microsoft’s support team will need to step in. A technical support engineer can perform a remote session to investigate the situation verify the backend configurations, and run any necessary synchronization tools to resolve the problem. If the issue requires further attention, they can refer it to a specialized team for deeper analysis.

Here is what your Office 365 Global Admin should do next:

    1. Submit a Service Request: The Global Admin should create a service request with Microsoft support to get advanced technical assistance and diagnostics. For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.
    2. Find Your Microsoft 365 Admin: If you are unsure who the Global Admin is within your organization, you can find guidance on locating them here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.
    3. Call Microsoft Support: For additional assistance, use this link to find the appropriate contact number: Global Customer Service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

Note: If you are an end-user, please coordinate with your Office 365 Global Administrator to handle these steps.

Apologies for redirecting you to the related development team support as the moderators in this community have limited resources to check the backend information, and to get the fast and better assistance I requested for it.

    Appreciate your patience and understanding.

The behavior matches a broken connection between the Teams channel and its underlying SharePoint folder after the SharePoint site swap. Teams channels expect a specific folder path and name in the associated SharePoint document library; if that folder is renamed, moved, or the backing library/site changes, the Files tab can show errors even though “Open in SharePoint” still works.

To restore the Files tab for the “Marketing General” channel, use the SharePoint side to re‑establish the expected folder and name:

    1. In Teams, go to the Marketing General channel and open the Files tab.
    2. Select More actions (ellipsis) > Open in SharePoint.
    3. In the SharePoint library that opens, identify the folder that actually contains the channel’s files (for example, a folder named Marketing General under the main document library).
    4. Ensure that this folder’s name and location match what Teams expects:
      • If the folder was renamed or moved during/after the site swap, rename it back to the original channel folder name and move it back to the root of the default document library.
      • Use the Details pane → Activity in SharePoint to see any rename/move operations and revert them if needed.
    5. After correcting the folder name/location, return to Teams and refresh the Files tab. If the folder now exists at the expected path, the Files tab should load normally.

If the original folder was deleted during the swap, recreate it in SharePoint with the exact name and path that Teams expects, then retry the Files tab.

If the issue persists, an administrator should also verify that the correct SharePoint site and document library are still associated with the team and channel. If the site swap changed the underlying site in a way that Teams cannot automatically reconcile, re‑creating the affected channel (and moving content into the new channel folder in SharePoint) may be required.
