Microsoft Edge will not open

If you have performed the usual app Repair and Reset operations on Edge and that does not resolve the problem, download the Edge installer from this link, then use the installer to re-install Edge on top of the existing installation to test if that fixes the problem.

Try these steps in order to resolve Edge not opening and closing after a white screen:

1. Restart the computer
   A running program or process may be interfering with Edge. Restart the device, then try opening Microsoft Edge again.
2. Close other tabs, extensions, and apps (if Edge briefly opens)
   If Edge opens long enough to interact:
   • Close all other tabs except the one with the error.
   • Close other running apps and pause any downloads.
   • Uninstall any unnecessary extensions. Then reload the tab.
3. Make sure Microsoft Edge is up to date
   If Edge can stay open long enough:
   • Select Settings and more (⋯) > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
   • Apply any available updates.
4. Scan the device for malware
   Malicious software can prevent Edge from starting correctly. Run a full scan using the built‑in security tools for the OS (for example, Windows Security on Windows 10 via the "Run a scan manually" steps in Stay protected with Windows Security).
5. Verify third‑party security software is up to date
   If using antivirus or security software such as Norton or McAfee:
   • Open the security app and check for updates, or
   • Visit the vendor’s website to ensure the latest version is installed.

6. Repair Microsoft Edge
   Use the built‑in repair option in Windows:
   1. Close Microsoft Edge for all users on the device.

7. Reinstall Microsoft Edge if repair does not help
