Look at the function keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard, if one of them has an icon that looks like a touchpad with a line through it, try pressing that key or Fn + that key to test if that enables the touchpad.

If that was not the problem, the best option is to go to the support page for your laptop on the manufacturers website to download and reinstall (not update) the version of touchpad drivers they provide.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

Follow these steps to diagnose and fix a non‑responsive touchpad in Windows 10 or Windows 11:

    1. Update the touchpad driver via Windows Update
      1. Connect an external mouse if possible.
      2. Open Settings > Windows Update.
      3. Check for updates and install any available driver or optional updates.
      4. Restart the PC and test the touchpad.
    2. Update the touchpad driver via Device Manager
      1. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
      2. Look for the touchpad under:
        • Human Interface Devices, or
        • Mice and other pointing devices.
      3. Right-click the touchpad entry and select Update driver.
      4. Choose to search automatically for drivers.
      5. Restart and test the touchpad.
    3. Reinstall the touchpad driver (forces Windows to fetch a fresh driver)
      1. In Device Manager, locate the touchpad under Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
      2. Right-click the touchpad and select Uninstall device.
      3. Confirm the uninstall.
      4. Restart the PC. Windows will reinstall the touchpad driver from Windows Update.
      5. Test the touchpad again.
    4. If the touchpad still does not work
      • If updating or reinstalling the driver does not restore functionality, contact the device manufacturer for further hardware-specific diagnostics or repair.
