How do I move my ISP to Microsoft?

I have a domain that is registered elsewhere. I wish to move it to 365 so that it will continue to use Outlook

    To move your domain to Microsoft 365 and continue using Outlook, you essentially need to transfer the domain registration or update DNS records so that Microsoft 365 can manage email and other services. First, decide whether you want Microsoft to become your domain registrar or just manage email. Transferring the domain gives you centralized management under Microsoft 365, while keeping it registered elsewhere and updating DNS only changes where email and other services point.

    If you want to transfer the domain, log in to your current registrar and unlock the domain, then get the authorization code (also called EPP code). In Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Settings > Domains > Add domain, enter your domain, and choose the option to transfer it. You’ll be prompted to enter the authorization code. Microsoft will handle updating the necessary DNS records for Outlook automatically once the transfer completes. The transfer may take several days to propagate.

    If you prefer to keep the domain at your current registrar, you don’t need to transfer it. Instead, go to the Microsoft 365 admin center, add the domain, and follow the setup wizard. It will show you the DNS records to add at your current registrar. These typically include MX, CNAME, TXT, and possibly SRV records for Outlook and other Microsoft services. For example, you’ll add an MX record like:

    MX 0 <domain-key>.mail.protection.outlook.com
    

    Once you add all the recommended records, Microsoft will verify ownership via a TXT record, and email should flow through Outlook without needing to transfer the domain. This method avoids the transfer delay but requires you to maintain DNS settings at your current registrar.
