Hi,
I understand how important this document is, especially when Word for the web indicated that your work was being saved and synchronized.
Since you have already checked Version History and the missing content does not appear there, repeating that step is unlikely to help. Also, options such as Recover Unsaved Documents and local AutoRecover files generally apply to the Word desktop application, not a document edited only in Word for the web.
Because you are using an Education account, the next step is to contact your school’s IT department or Microsoft 365 administrator. Ask them to check:
- The document’s OneDrive or SharePoint version history from the administrator side.
- The first-stage and second-stage recycle bins, particularly if the document itself was deleted or replaced.
- Your school’s retention policies or retention labels.
- Any available recovery options that are not visible to you as an end user.
- Whether there was a synchronization, service, or account-related problem when the content disappeared.
Avoid making further changes to the document until the school’s IT team has reviewed it, as additional saves could make recovery more difficult.
If the school’s administrators cannot recover the content through the available OneDrive or SharePoint options, they should open a support request with Microsoft on your behalf because they have the required access to the organization’s tenant and recovery information.
I hope your school’s IT team can locate an earlier copy or retained version of your work.
Best regards,
