Does FortiGate-VM PAYG on Azure support VDOMs ?

Hi,

I am planning to deploy FortiGate-VM from the Azure Marketplace for a small networking lab. I do not currently have a FortiGate license, so I am considering using the Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) Marketplace licensing option.

Before deploying, I would like to confirm the following:

  1. Does the FortiGate-VM PAYG license on Azure support VDOMs (Virtual Domains)?
  2. If yes, how many VDOMs are supported?
  3. Does PAYG support inter-VDOM links for communication between VDOMs?
  4. Are there any specific FortiGate-VM Azure Marketplace plans or VM sizes required to enable VDOMs?
  5. What is the approximate hourly cost of the FortiGate PAYG license, excluding Azure VM compute, storage, and networking costs?

My intended lab is a small FortiGate deployment for learning VDOM concepts, including having a root VDOM and an additional traffic VDOM and testing communication between them.

I would appreciate confirmation of the PAYG licensing capabilities before I deploy the VM.

Thank you.

    Hello @G, Vaishal Raj

    Yes, PAYG supports VDOMs.

    • VDOMs: Yes - 10 VDOMs included on all Azure PAYG licenses (FG-VM02 and up). Enough for root + traffic lab.
    • Inter-VDOM links: Yes, fully supported on PAYG. You can create npu-vlink / inter-VDOM links in GUI.
    • Plan/size required: Any PAYG plan - FortiGate PAYG (BYOL not needed). Use Standard_D2s_v3 or bigger, 4GB RAM minimum or VDOMs won't show.
    • Cost (license only): ∼$0.40/hr for FG-VM02 PAYG, ∼$0.80/hr for VM04. Compute/storage/network extra.
