    Hello @Walter

To confirm the situation and suggest the troubleshooting steps in the right direction, may I confirm a few points?

1/ When the verification screen appears, do you see any alternative verification methods available (SMS, phone call, email, etc.)?

2/ Is this an Azure account provided by your company, school, or organization, or is it a personal Microsoft account?

    • Company account (@companyname__)
    • Educational account (@edu__)
    • Personal account (@hotmail.com, @outlook.com)

3/ Have you ever successfully signed in to this Azure account on this device before?

4/ Have you enabled notifications for the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

If the Azure portal keeps looping, asks you for a code, and never sends a notification to your Authenticator app, that usually means your account is set up to use a different MFA method than the one you expect. The portal is trying to complete MFA, but it’s looking for a phone/SMS code instead of Authenticator, so you get stuck in that loop.

A few things commonly cause this:

    1. Your default MFA method is set to “Phone code” If your account is configured for SMS or phone verification, Azure will keep asking for a code — even if you normally use Authenticator.

    2. Authenticator is registered, but not set as the default method This produces exactly the behavior you described. The portal keeps prompting for a code because it’s still using the older method.

    3. Conditional Access is forcing a specific MFA method If your organization requires Microsoft Authenticator (or phishing‑resistant MFA) but your account is still set to phone code, the sign‑in will loop and never reach the app.

    4. Your Authenticator registration is incomplete or was removed If you reinstalled the app or removed the account from it, Azure can’t complete the MFA handshake and falls back to code prompts.

If you can share the exact wording of the MFA prompt you’re seeing it may help to narrow down
