I am having a problem logging into my Verizon (AOL) e-mail account. All of my e-mails have disappeared. The program asks me for a password. then I am rejected. How can I correct this?

    Hi!

Are you using a standard password or an app password? Some email services require an app password.

Also, try reconnecting your account; this can resolve issues with old or corrupted tokens:

    1. Press Windows + R > type control > Under View By, select Large Icons > Click on Mail (Microsoft Outlook).

WARNING: If your email is POP, you should back up your Data Files as a precaution in Documents > Outlook Files.

    1. Click on Show Profiles > Remove your current Profile > Close the window and then open it again.
    2. Click on Show Profiles again > Add > Add a name > Go back to the previous window and click on Add Account.
    3. Select Manual setup or additional server types > POP or IMAP > Fill in the requested fields with your account information.
    • You should be able to obtain all this information from your email provider or IT department.
    1. Click on More Settings > Fill in more information in Outgoing Server and Advanced.
    2. Click OK > Next.

Some email providers require an application code instead of a password. If the problem persists, try generating an application code and using it in place of your password.

For a Verizon.net account in classic Outlook, the most likely cause is that Outlook is using an old password or needs an app password from the email provider.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Verify the Verizon/AOL account still works on the provider website. If sign-in works there, the mailbox itself is still active.
    2. If the password was changed on the provider website, update it in Outlook. In classic Outlook, repeated password prompts can happen after the provider password changes or expires.
    3. If Outlook says the password is not accepted, get an app password from the email provider and use that in Outlook instead of the normal account password. Outlook guidance for third-party providers specifically says to get the app password from the provider site, then paste it when Outlook prompts for the account password.
    4. In classic Outlook, check whether Outlook is offline:
      • Look at the bottom of the Outlook window for Working Offline, Disconnected, or Trying to connect...
      • If Working Offline appears, go to Send/Receive > Work Offline to switch back online.
    5. If Outlook keeps asking for a password while adding the account, make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unchecked on the IMAP details page.
    6. If the account still will not authenticate, remove and add the account again from Control Panel > Mail > Email Accounts... > New, then enter the email address and the updated password or app password.

If the mailbox appears empty after sign-in fails, that can happen because Outlook is not connecting to the mail server, not necessarily because the messages were deleted.
